六: 水电

1. The power is off. 停电了
、"The power is gone." 或是 "There is a power outage." 这三句都是停电了。其中的分别是前二句为比较口语的说法。第三句的 power outage 则是用在比较正式的场合上，例如社区公告明天下午一点到五点要停电，他们会说 "The will be a power outage from 1pm to 5pm tomorrow."
electricity 这个字，但这个字在使用上比较局限于正式的场合。比方说你新搬到一间公寓，电还没接上，你就可以提醒房东说，"There is no electricity in my house."。
发电厂是 power plant 而非 electricity plant，电线是 power line 而非 electricity line。
另外「电力」有一个比较俚语的讲法，叫 juice。也就是跟「果汁」是同一个字。所以下次如果你在电灯开关旁边看到一个 "Save the juice" 的牌子，可别误会成「帮我留一点果汁」唷！那其实是劝告你节省「电力」的意思。

2. The power is back on. 电又回来了。
"The power is back." 或是 "The power is back on." 大家注意一下为什么会说成 back on 呢？因为这是指原来开著 (on) 的，后来关掉了，再把它打开的意思。(back on 就是说再回到 on 的状态)。这里我再举一个 back on 的例子来加深大家的印象。有一次我跟老美去烤肉，有人看大家都吃得差不多了，就把炉子关了。可是后来又有人没吃饱，所以我的朋友就说，"Ok, I will turn it back on." (好，我再把炉子打开。)

3. Please turn off the power. 请把电源关掉。
"Please turn off the power before you leave."
"Just leave the printer on when you leave." (你们走的时候不要关掉印表机，让它一直开著好了。)

4. Throw the power on. 打开电源。

5. The power is running low. 快要没电了。
要是电已经完全用光了，则可以说，"It's running out of power." 或是直接了当地说， "The battery is dead." (这个电池挂了。)

6. I was shocked. 我被电到了。

7. Is this tap water? No. It's bottled water. 这是自来水吗？不，这是瓶装的。
自来水的英文就是 tap water 或是 running water，而一般瓶装的水就叫 bottled water

8. I am running the bath water. 我正在放洗澡水。
run the bath water 或是 fill the tub。放洗澡水

9. I need to take some water. 我需要喝点水。
喝水不一定要用 drink water，用 take water 也可以。
fountain machine，也就是饮水机的意思
，"Is there any fountain machines around here?" (这附近有没有饮水机啊？) 但是记得，有时候 fountain machine 也可以指速食店里的那种汽水机，使用上多加小心。

10. How much do you pay for the utilities every month? 你每个月水电费付多少钱？
utilities 就是包括了水、电、瓦斯这些生活上的必须品
通常你若要去租房子千万不要忘了先问好，"What kinds of utilities are included?" (房租里包含了那些水电和其它的费用？)
